Echoes + Evolution: Unveiling an Architectural Journey
Explore a piece of Knoxville’s architectural journey, where history and culture converge to shape the area’s built environment. “Echoes + Evolution” invites you to discover the diverse voices and traditions embedded within its architectural heritage, acknowledging often overlooked narratives and practices. From newly constructed iconic landmarks to the country’s first deed restricted modern subdivision, each chapter tells a story of early examples of groundbreaking modern design in the south, community resilience, preservation and cultural expression.
This tour will feature the 2021 AIA Honor Award winning Loghaven Artist Residency – a multidisciplinary artist residency occupying 90 acres just 2 miles from downtown Knoxville, including 6 restored log cabin structures dating to the 1930s, a new Gateway Building, and discipline specific artist studio spaces.
Additionally, this tour features a collection of international styled residences built in the late 30s and early 1940s within a subdivision called “Little Switzerland.” The Little Switzerland neighborhood is a pioneering subdivision built by husband-and-wife architects, Alfred Clauss and Jane West Clauss, who had worked with premier modernists Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier respectively. Three of the five historic homes will be accessible as a part of this tour.

Tour a wide variety of breweries on each trip with provided tastings at each stop as your guide takes you behind the scenes where you will learn the history of local breweries and the brewing process grain-to-glass. The tour will explore Downtown/Old City on foot as you travel between breweries of varying styles and sizes.
