Biography

Virginia Byers is the Science and Technology Practice Leader with HOK’s Science + Technology group. With over 20 years of experience focused on laboratory programming, planning, and design, she works at the intersection of architecture, technical performance, and human-centered research environments.
Her work spans academic, commercial, institutional, and government projects, ranging from laboratory casework product design to complex interdisciplinary research buildings and large-scale master planning efforts.
As a LEED and WELL accredited professional, Virginia is focused on advancing high-performance science facilities that balance technical rigor with health, wellness, sustainability, and design excellence. Her work explores how research environments can better support a range of cognitive, sensory, and social needs, creating more inclusive spaces for discovery, collaboration, and belonging.
