Virginia Byers leads HOK’s Science + Technology practice in Atlanta. As a registered architect, Virginia leverages nearly two decades of experience in architectural and laboratory design for civic, non-profit, higher education and government clients to deliver inspiring environments that aid in scientific discovery.

As a LEED and WELL accredited professional, she is highly knowledgeable of sustainable design practices and is a thought leader in the integration of health and wellness strategies into science facilities. She is a member of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) and has spoken at multiple I2SL conferences, where she presented methods for supporting well-being in scientific workplaces through safety, collaboration and social connection. Other previous speaking engagements include Tradeline’s University Facilities for the Sciences & Advanced Technologies Conference and Future Labs Live.

Virginia’s laboratory design experience varies in scope and scale from product design to large-scale master planning. Recently, she contributed to the completion of the University of Miami Griffin Cancer Research Building supporting translational research for cancer care.
