SOLD OUT Sears Crosstown Tour – 3:30 – 5:30 – (MAX 25)

Once a vital distribution center for the Mid-South, the 1,500,000-square-foot historic Sears building (1927) has been dormant for over 20 years. A herculean revitalization effort is now moving forward thanks to an extraordinary collaboration of local institutions. LRK is working with a non-profit arts-based organization and its partners to redevelop the 10–story building into a “vertical urban village” that integrates residential, commercial, retail, health and wellness, arts and culture, and education. The design weaves a purposeful collection of diverse tenants and varied uses into a precedent-setting mixed-use community that will serve as an anchor and catalyst for further revitalization and economic development in the surrounding neighborhood.

Medical Center Tour, St. Judes, LeBonheur – 3:30 – 5:30 – (MAX 25)

The tour will begin at the micro level with a tour of the newest project in the Medical Center, the UTHSC Simulation Center, and conclude at the macro level with a presentation and tour of the work of newly formed Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC). The Simulation Center is a world class and flagship simulation center for the University of Tennessee system. The design accommodates current best-accepted practice in simulation facility design and pays close attention to flow, adjacencies, and educational priorities. The MMDC focuses on four key areas: Improving the public realm and built environment, increasing safety and security, programming and marketing, and property development. The MMDC will also institute a series of programs to capture and reinvest some of the institutions’ economic impact into future development and programmatic initiatives.
