2022 Presidential Award of Excellence

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – AIA Tennessee recently honored individuals whose efforts and achievements have significantly improved the presence of AIA Tennessee, the profession of architecture and/or the built environment in Tennessee.

The complete list of awards is as follows:

Richard-Allen Foster, AIA, past-president of AIA TN, was honored for his four years of service on the AIA TN Board and on the AIA TN Executive Committee. He has gone above and beyond in his service to AIA TN where he has lent his voice. This year, he chaired TN AIA Leadership Network (TALN), led the effort to update TN’s local and state component MOU, spearheaded the Awards redesign, and chaired the AIA TN nominating Committee, among other things. 

Sarah Page, AIA, was recognized for her leadership and EP advocacy. She is a current AIA TN board member; she has gone above and beyond in co-chairing the Conference on Architecture in Chattanooga, aways contributing, and advocating for EPs through the creation of the EP Friendly Firm Awards. Sarah was recently selected as TN’s representative to the AIA Young Architect Forum. 

Chad Polk, AIA, was recognized for his leadership and dedication to AIA TN. He chaired the task force that updated the AIA TN bylaws. He is completing a two-year term as secretary on the AIA TN board; he serves on the AIA TN Executive Committee and has agreed to serve another two years term as Secretary.

Ana Smetana, Associate AIA, was honored for her advocacy for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion within our profession. Ana chaired the 2022 JE+DI Committee, which raised scholarship money for minorities on their path to licensure, and this committee brought about a diversity of programs throughout the year that celebrated and gave recognition to diversity and inclusion.

Tim Ogburn, AIA, was recognized for his leadership. Tim currently serves on the AIA TN board. When the board proposed a revised format for the conference, Tim stepped up to assist staff in creating and developing additional non-dues revenue options. Led by his efforts, AIA TN continues to improve its member services while remaining financially sound.

Cyril Stewart, AIA, was recognized for his service to AIA TN in a number of capacities over the years. There are some goals and initiatives that are so significant that it takes years to accomplish them. A state historic tax credit falls in this category. AIA TN has a long history of advocating for historic preservation. We are now seeing the fruits of our efforts realized through the Historic Development Grant. Cyril has been AIA TN’s lead expert and the champion for this cause. He continues to advocate for funding and educating our government officials and members on the importance of preserving and reusing TN’s historic buildings.

Aaron Cole, AIA, was recognized for his leadership in co-chairing the awesome AIA TN Conference on Architecture in Chattanooga this year.

P. Jeanne Myers, AIA, was recognized for her fiscal stewardship and leadership throughout the year.  Jeanne is always a willing volunteer and her work as treasurer has kept our organization financially sound.

Matt Lyle, AIA, was recognized for his leadership in advocacy on behalf of AIA TN, including developing the Speak Up Series during Advocacy week.

Trey Wheeler, AIA, was recognized for his leadership in advocacy on behalf of AIA TN. Trey has chaired the Government Relations committee for a number of years.
