2023 SpeakUp! | Legislative Day on the Hill

AIA Tennessee’s SpeakUp! Series has been created to raise awareness of the importance of advocacy and to help members learn they can use their voice to advocate as an individual, part of AIA or another architecture/design focused group. Special thanks to Risk Strategies for their support of this program!

SpeakUp! Part One: Advocacy Alt: Alternative Ideas to Advance the Profession

Tuesday, February 28 | 11 am – 1pm CST | No Cost | 2 LU

Advocacy can take on many roles and forms. If you don’t like setting an appointment to meet with your elected officials, you can volunteer on a local govt. committee, educate children to build a pipeline, preserve historic buildings and use social media. For our first session, we will highlight three very different ways individuals & organizations advocate for the profession. Learn how you can engage with stakeholders and policymakers through individual outreach, planned programs or social media.

SpeakUp! Part Two: Politics, Priorities and Affecting Legislation

Friday, March 3 | 11am – 1pm CST | No Cost | 2 LU

Public officials (federal, state and local) cannot know the impact of every resolution or bill that lands on their desk. It is important for members to develop relationships with elected officials and other stakeholders. Engaging with your state legislators and serving as a trusted resources on issues related to the profession is essential. The second session of SpeakUP will provide an opportunity for you to hear what’s happening on the Hill, learn AIA TN’s legislative priorities and how you can exercise your first amendment right to inform your legislator what you, as a constituent, want from them.
