There was great enthusiasm about moving our Lake Day to coincide with the CACE Conference, so here we go! The conference opens on Tuesday, August 31 at 11:00 AM EST. It concludes on Thursday, September 2 at 4:00 PM EST. The TALN “conference center” is called Watts Bar & Grill. It is located at 2175 Spruce Drive; Spring City, TN 37838. (I will send you very specific directions before the day—GPS will take you into what we refer to as “the Deliverance Zone.”) You may begin check-in on Monday, August 30th after lunch. Check out may be as late as Friday, September 3rd. I have 4 bedrooms with double beds in each and two bathrooms. The couch obviously also sleeps well, as I find bodies there regularly. I currently have zero air mattresses as my last one was used as a trampoline and died.
Tuesday evening, we will be celebrating Amber’s election as President-Elect. (Memphis has this track record…) She’s bringing the Champagne. Normally, at a live conference, we would all dress up, themed to match the site. (Lots of big hats when we were at Churchill Downs, for example.) You’ll be at a lake house. I’m not recommending bathing suits for that event, to be clear. Bring one, however, because the water should still be delightful and the boat will be at the ready for evening cruises. Or morning cruises. There are also 2 kayaks available. Water shoes recommended (or flip-flops) because our 30-year-old dock is in its last season and the wood is rough. I have more beach towels than Walmart.
In the kitchen, I have a Keurig (necessities first!) and a selection of choices for it. Feel free to bring any favored pods, if you are particular. There is a fridge of moderate size, a stove and oven, grill, toaster oven, blender, steamer… It’s relatively full-service. I have 2 Brita filters for water and we can make pitchers of tea. Other beverages (sodas or adult) should be imported. I’ll have a small wine selection for sharing, but do not ask me to be a bartender; nor is there a great selection of bartending tools, although I have a muddler. Once we have an idea of who will be there for what night, we can talk about food. Amber suggested rotating meal responsibility, which I am quite happy to share!
Let me know when you think you’ll arrive/depart, and we’ll go from there. Let’s show our CACE cohorts what collaboration really look like! 😊
