Disaster Relief Resources

We are committed to supporting members across the state in times of disaster by serving as a trusted resource hub and connector. When disasters occur, state and local components can help members navigate recovery by providing up-to-date information and linking them with the appropriate organizations, agencies, and services equipped to offer assistance. From guidance on assessing building safety to connecting with emergency management officials, we want to make sure our members have the support they need to recover and continue serving their communities.

How to Help

The Tennessee Structural Assessment and Visual Evaluation (SAVE) Coalition is designed for individuals with experience and training in building design and construction, to assess buildings and vertical structures for safety and/or occupancy following disasters in the state of Tennessee.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency works closely with the Tennessee Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (TNVOAD) to organize both volunteers and donations for areas that are impacted by disasters and emergencies. Please note, while local communities appreciate the volunteer spirit during disasters and emergencies, it is important to refrain from sending resources that have not been requested by state or local authorities. ·

The National VOAD coalition includes over 50 of the country’s most reputable national organizations (faith-based, community-based and other non-governmental organizations) and 55 State/Territory VOADs, which represent Local/Regional VOADs and hundreds of other member organizations throughout the country. AIA’S Disaster Assistance Program
AIA’s Disaster Assistance Program trains architects to help communities mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, aligning their disaster-response processes, protocols, and training with federal frameworks.

Good Samaritan laws afford liability protection to architects providing disaster assistance. This resource explores the advantages of such laws, details state protections for architects, and includes AIA model legislation.

Individuals in declared counties can now apply for direct assistance through FEMA’s IA program online anytime or by phone at 1-800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. CDT. Multilingual operators are available.

Those eligible for FEMA’s IA program may receive help with rental assistance, home repair, and personal property replacement, in addition to other uninsured or underinsured disaster losses.
