The general makeup of the state legislature stayed the same with Republicans still holding a supermajority with 27 of the 33 seats in the Senate and 75 of the 99 seats in the House.

Highlights:
United States Senate
Senator Marsha Blackburn faced re-election this evening but handily beat Democrat candidate Gloria Johnson (current TN State House Representative) with nearly 64% of the vote.
Congressional Seats
Tennessee’s nine congressional districts were all up for re-election last night. All incumbents kept their seats.
District 1 in East Tennessee went to incumbent Diana Harshbarger (R-Kingsport) with nearly 78% of the vote against Democrat Kevin Jenkins.
District 2 went to incumbent Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville) with nearly 69% of the vote against Democrat Jane George.
District 3 went to incumbent Chuck Fleischmann (R-Ootlewah) with nearly 68% of the vote against Democrat Jack Allen.
District 4 went to incumbent Scott DesJarlais (R-South Pittsburg) with nearly 70% of the vote against Democrat Victoria Isabel Broderick.
District 5 went to incumbent Andy Ogles (R-Franklin) with 57% of the vote against Democrat Maryam Abolfazli.
District 6 went to incumbent John Rose (R-Cookeville) with exactly 68% of the vote against Democrat Lore Bergman.
District 7 went to incumbent Mark Green (R-Clarksville) with nearly 60% of the vote against Democrat Megan Barry, former mayor of Nashville.
District 8 went to incumbent David Kustoff (R-Germantown) with nearly 72% of the vote against Democrat Sarah Freeman.
District 9 went to incumbent Steve Cohen (D-Memphis) with nearly 71% of the vote against Republican Charlotte Bergmann.
State Senate
Half of the State Senate was up for re-election (even-numbered districts) this general election. Of the sixteen members running for re-election, three faced no opposition after the primary races this summer.
District 2 (Maryville) was left vacant when Senator Art Swann (R-Maryville) announced he would not seek re-election earlier this year. Republican Tom Hatcher and Democrat Patti Young faced off, with Hatcher winning with 79% of the vote.
District 4 (Bristol) became a district that garnered a lot of attention after Bobby Harshbarger defeated incumbent Jon Lundberg in the primary. Republican Bobby Harshbarger and Independent Dalia M. Price faced off, with Harshbarger winning 77% of the vote.
District 8 (Strawberry Plains) saw newcomer Jessie Seal, who defeated incumbent Frank Niceley in the primary, face Democrat R.E. Ellison, with Seal winning 83% of the vote.
State Representatives
All 99 members of the State House of Representatives were up for reelection Tuesday night. Of those members, 31 members did not face an opponent. Below are significant races where no incumbent sought re-election, or it was considered a competitive race.
District 4 was left vacant after John Holsclaw (R-Elizabethton) chose not to seek re-election. Republican Renea Jones won the primary and faced no opposition in yesterday’s general election.
District 12 was also left vacant after Dale Carr (R-Sevierville) chose not to seek re-election. Republican Fred A. Atchley faced Democrat Leslie P. Braddock, with Atchley winning 82% of the vote.
District 20, which was left vacant after Bryan Richey (R-Maryville) chose to run for the Senate. Republican Tom Stinnett and Democrat Karen Gertz faced off, with Stinnett winning with 75% of the vote.
District 27 became a district that garnered a lot of attention after Michele Reneau defeated incumbent Patsy Hazlewood (R-Signal Mountain) in the primary Republican Michele Reneau and Democrat Kathy Lennon faced off, with Reneau winning with 60% of the vote.
District 33, another district that garnered a lot of attention after Rick Scarbrough defeated incumbent John Ragan (R-Oak Ridge) in the primary. Republican Rick Scarbrough and Democrat Anne Backus faced off, with Scarbrough winning with 68% of the vote.
District 60, another vacant seat following Darren Jernigan (D-Old Hickory) choosing not to seek re-election. Democrat Shaundelle Brooks faced Republican Chad Bobo, with Brooks winning with 53%.
District 65 also left vacant with Sam Whitson (R-Franklin) choosing not to seek re-election. Republican Lee Reeves and Democrat LaRhonda Williams faced off, with Reeves winning with 69% of the vote.
District 67 was a close race with incumbent Ronnie Glynn (D-Clarksville) narrowly winning against Republican Jamie Dean Peltz by only 131 votes.
District 68 was also left vacant with Curtis Johnson (R-Clarksville) not seeking reelection. Republican Aron Maberry and Democrat Garfield Scott faced off, with Maberry winning with 68% of the vote.
District 75 was a race to watch with incumbent Jeff Burkhart (R-Clarksville) facing Democrat Allie Phillips. Burkhart ended up keeping his seat by winning 55% of the vote.
District 96 was also left vacant when representative Dwayne Thompson (D-Cordova) announced he would not seek re-election. Democrat Gabby Salinas faced no opposition in yesterday’s general election after winning the primary against four other Democrats.
District 97 was a close race with incumbent John Gillespie (R-Memphis) narrowly winning against Democrat Jessie Huseth with 52% of the vote.
