As things are winding down on the Hill, we want to extend our sincerest appreciation for the volunteers reviewing and monitoring legislation that will shape Tennessee’s built environment. It’s likely session will adjourn in within the next week or so.
AIA TN held the SpeakUP | Advocacy & Policy Day on March 26, where we dedicated half a day to discussing important topics related to the profession and/or built environment and learning strategies to enhance members’ advocacy efforts. We extend our gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the success of the event. We have posted a recap where you can learn about the topics and view presentations from the day.
Throughout this legislative session, we’ve engaged in robust discussions and advocated the importance of design. Several major pieces of legislation the committee reviewed and discussed were focused on affordable housing, third-party review, and zoning matters. As the end of session draws near, lobbyists and GR committee are still monitoring any legislation that could impact the profession.
In the days ahead, we will work to pull resources together and host a Advocacy Webinar at the end of May to discuss the outcome of legislative session and talk about (how through our collective efforts) members can engage decision-makers to make a positive impact.
Lastly, there are groups out there who oppose AIA TN’s interests and priorities! Sometimes it’s proposed changes in agency regulations. Sometimes, it’s legislative efforts that shift architects’ responsibilities, or changes that dilute the ability to offer the services you have been trained to provide. The TN Architects’ PAC is a tool in our advocacy toolkit. By contributing to TAPAC, you can directly support the efforts of AIA TN’s government relations program and be an active participant in AIA TN’s advocacy efforts.
